Grand Haven Charter Township is accepting applications for the following positions:

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT - ASSESSING

Under the supervision of the Township Assessor performs a variety of duties related to gathering field data and data entry for the appraisal and assessment of taxable property in Grand Haven Charter Township.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain the Principal Resident exemption files, sending out response letters when needed.
  • Maintain Property Transfer files, updating computer with current owner information using County’s deed access program.
  • Sending out appropriate response letters to taxpayers for lack of filing proper paperwork.
  • Submits proper paperwork to State, County and local jurisdictions concerning Principal Residence Exemptions and Property Transfer affidavits.
  • Participates in the maintenance of real and personal property assessment records.
  • Assists with field inspections, verifications of data, and inputting related data.
  • Data entry and maintenance of residential and personal property records.
  • Enters new house data and sketch from plans submitted by the building department.
  • Assists with the Board of Review (i.e. taking appointments and making copies).
  • Answers questions of residents/taxpayers.
  • Acts as back-up for the pay office. Answers, screens and monitors incoming calls and uses best judgment to refer them to the appropriate person. Collects monies and processes payments for tax, water/sewer taps, cemetery, dog licenses, boat permits, park reservations and utility bills. Also processes payments for and generates building permits.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must have a valid Michigan motor vehicle operator’s license, the ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports, knowledge of the practices and materials used in the construction of various types of homes, the demonstrated ability to interact and problem solve in a pleasant and positive manner, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must be willing to work outside in all temperatures, weather, and seasons. Must have intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Working knowledge of BSA Building.Net software preferred. Working knowledge of GIS and APEX preferred. Must be able to obtain MCAO (Michigan Certified Assessing Officer) State Certification within three years.

This position is a Pay Grade 3 with a pay range of $16.89 to $20.38 per hour.

LABORER

This seasonal Summer position assists in the maintenance and repair of the township buildings, grounds, parks, and facilities including painting, mowing, leaf pickup and cleaning.

Good working knowledge pertaining to the operation of basic lawn tools and equipment including lawn mowers, leaf blowers, line trimmers and various hand tools is desired. The ability to operate the aforementioned equipment is required.

This position has a starting wage of $9.48 per hour.
